About me
Hi, my name is Ethan Freeman; I am a first-year university student at LSE with a wealth of tutoring experience looking to support new students in their journeys. I achieved 5 A*s at A-Level and 10 Grade 9s at GCSE, and I specialise in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
In the classroom, I have always felt there is severe lack of targeted support for students on an individual basis. This is precisely what my private tuition service provides. Explaining complex topics intuitively, step-by-step, in just the right way to make it ‘click’. Every student is different; each deserves unique support and guidance.
With 2 years of experience tutoring students across a range of abilities and ages, combined with my expert knowledge of these subjects, I am ideally suited to help any student achieve their full academic potential. Whether that be chasing those top grades or ensuring a pass, I endeavour to have all my students succeed.
GCSE: I specialise in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry. These are the subjects I know inside and out – especially having studied them at A-Level. I am confident in teaching other subjects too, such as Biology, French and English, though I may require advanced notice for these subjects to prepare educational materials.
A-Level: I teach only the subjects which I myself took: Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry. Having recently completed my A-Level examinations, I understand first-hand what is required from students undertaking these challenging subjects, both in terms of content knowledge and exam technique.
Please note: For some subjects, it is important to know the exam board which the student is taking (e.g. AQA, Edexcel, OCR). In some circumstances, I may not be able to teach a certain exam board. See below for more details.
GCSE
- Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, French: Any exam board.
- English: Any exam board, but I cannot provide support for set texts that students may study in class (e.g. Romeo & Juliet, An Inspector Calls) or specific poems. I can, however, provide tuition on all other parts of the course, such as Creative Writing, Unseen Poetry, Reading Comprehension, Transactional Writing and more.
A-Level
- Mathematics: Any exam board
- Further Mathematics: Edexcel only. For optional modules, Further Pure 1 and Decision 1 only.
- Physics: AQA only. For optional modules, Turning Points in Physics only
- Chemistry: AQA only.
University: I am in my first year reading Financial Mathematics and Statistics BSc at the London School of Economics and Political Science. LSE was ranked #1 university in the UK in 2025 and 2026 (The Times and Sunday Times).
A-Level: A*A*A*A* in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Also achieved A* in EPQ essay on Financial Mathematics. Notable results include achieving 99% in Mathematics and 98% in Further Mathematics.
GCSE: Grade 9s in all 10 subjects: Mathematics, English Language, English Literature, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, French, Spanish and Further Mathematics. This was the best result in my cohort and placed me in the top 0.1% of candidates nationally.

About The Lessons
What does a typical lesson look like?
All lessons are 1 hour long and take place virtually, through Google Meet, allowing me to share my screen. I use Microsoft Whiteboard so students can learn visually with the help of diagrams, drawings and annotations alongside a thorough verbal explanation.
I like to start by recapping topics from the past few weeks, focusing on those areas where the student has previously struggled or often forgotten key concepts, seeking to diagnose and address knowledge gaps by continually reinforcing old learning.
If introducing a new topic, I often ask the student some general questions to gauge their initial level of knowledge. Then, by challenging the current limits of what they already know, we are able to pinpoint exactly what it is the student is unsure about, and where the understanding breaks down.
While the ability to memorise and recall facts is a large part of success in exams, an even larger component is fundamentally understanding the topic. To encourage my students to achieve this, I will sometimes round off by asking the student to explain to me, in their own words, what we have been learning. This tells me exactly which ideas have been understood well and which require revisiting.
HOW ARE STUDENTS PREPARED FOR EXAMS?
To maximise exam-readiness, I put an emphasis on working through exam-style questions, which are displayed on-screen for the student. Completing just about every past paper I could find when preparing for my own exams taught me exactly what the examiners are looking for, thus allowing me to teach students how to apply their knowledge effectively in a way that earns marks.
I find that a focus on past exam papers not only ensures students are familiar with the content that they will actually be tested on in the exam, but also develops their exam technique, which is imperative to their success.
I track each student’s progress through different topics, identifying areas that require more attention so that the tuition is targeted on an individual basis, thereby yielding the best results.
Pricing
The first session is always free of charge, with zero commitment to further sessions. This allows students to experience the tuition first-hand and for all parties to decide whether to continue with paid sessions.
I currently charge £30 per 1-hour session.
These may be paid for individually – in which case payment is required on or before the day on which the session takes place. Alternatively, a block of 10 hours may be purchased upfront.
